Earth hour 2009

I was part of it.I started last 2008 and I joined again this year! And 2 days after committed for an hour of darkness, I was able to make this entry available:

My wallpaper:

Here's the video and lyrics of the Earth Hour anthem and I'd thought, it is worth sharing:

I'm waiting on the end of a fishing line
But there ain't no fish in the sea
I'm wishing this was a shady shoreline
But the water's higher this week
It's a struggle to feed my family
Impossible to keep my home
When people living in tall bright cities
Keep their lights on

It's alright
To turn out the light
We can make it show that we care
There's a big wide world out there
It's a beautiful night - saving energy
To turn out the light - we can be pollution-free
And go green like this world has never seen

People passing by on the city subway
Mostly they they don't notice me
Their eyes on the prize, they're so civilised
With somewhere warm and dry to sleep
SUV's and swimming pools
The air-conditioned second homes
And everything is always on standby
In case they want to switch it on

It's alright
To turn out the light
We can make it show that we care
There's a big wide world out there
It's a beautiful night - saving energy
To turn out the light - we can be pollution-free
And go green like this world has never seen

Walang Pahinga...Walang Pagpapanggap

I used a Tagalog title for this entry because I want to make emphasis in sharing my "what-happened-on-the-days-of-the-third-and fourth-week-of-March."

March 16-The countdown for the SAP Data archival project has started, making me feel the pressure, even if it was just a countdown. lol. Nope, it was countdown because anytime soon, our in-house consultant revealed his plan of flying to China.

March 17- It is my mom's birthday. It was sad to realize that now when we are able to buy good presents for her, she is no longer with us. Sure, I miss her.

March 18- Off to the bowling lanes we went when the clock read 12:00 noon. Donald, Amy, Vivian, Zeny, Frankie, JP and me were joined by the National team member of the training pool named Julius, the newcomer to ICTD.

March 19- I went to Annapolis to finalize my sign-off loan documents. I was able to do it because for this month, my duty falls on Thursdays. The sign-off went well, now I'm afraid to start thinking of the upcoming deductions to my pay slips.

March 20- The night of this day was dedicated to the man who did not only lead his people in laying pipes and providing quality water and excellent customer service in the entire East of Metro Manila, but also in improving the lives of people. The Despedida Party entitled "The ATA We Will Always Remember" started as early as 6pm. It was initiated by all departments under FRM Group. Below is a remembrance. March 21- Upon waking up early in morning, I grabbed my 2 pairs of sneakers and get 'em soaked in a basin with water and powder mixture. A special treat to them for being with me.

March 22 - A day I can call my own. Spent the day at home with SAP monitoring, neopetting, TV-ing, sleeping, and as usual EATING. The sneakers got dry only today, and in the evening, i took pictures of them, which i'm planning to post as an entry.

March 23- Back to the dungeon
, I mean back to office again. Worried I was because of the SAP Data Archival pressure again (as expected during Mondays!) This day is also the Wedding Anniversary of my parents. And again, I can't help but be sad about it.

March 24- The archival process of the restored database in a slower server has started. The official day of SAP Data Archival. *sigh*

March 25- I'm glad i'm back to posting entries again after losing my access to this blog. I lost my password and I have regained it just now. Anyways, we are supposedly at the Big dome tonight to witness the clash between GinKings and the Beermen. The nonavailability of complimentary tickets is the main point of failure. Fortunately, the Beermen bagged their 6th win and maintain unbeaten while the GinKings slumped at the bottom with 1-5 win-loss card.

That would be all for now. Happy reading!

CTS: to Care not To Scare

Like many other IT professionals who worry much about health, to know what is carpal tunnel syndrome is a must.

The image appearing at the right is courtesy of MPS Site. It shows the carpal tunnel/median nerve.

What is CTS?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition affecting the wrist, hands and fingers. It occurs when a nerve inside the wrist is compressed during an activity, such as typing on a computer. Repeating the offending activity can lead to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Symptoms

Symptoms can be moderate such as, slight lack of feeling, and minor prickling of the skin, to intense pain with a debilitating deterioration of the thumb. The most usual symptom is burning, tingling and numbness in the first three fingers. You will not be aware of any affect in the little finger. The nerve stimulus for the little finger is derived from another origin rather than the carpal tunnel. The initial onset of CTS will bring about recurrent symptoms. You may feel as if your thumb has "fallen asleep" with tingling feelings as if it is beginning to "wake up." The thumb will progressively become more physically weak and will eventually be more painful as the condition deteriorates. Manifestations of CTS are noticed more at night. This may bring about a transfer of the pain to the arms and at times into the shoulders.

How to lessen the possibility of CTS
* While at work, grasp an object with entire hand and fingers for balanced support.
* Rest your arms and hands at least every one or two hours.
* Stimulate your hands by simple exercises several times each day.
* Use tools as much as possible rather than over extending your wrist.
* Set up straight in your chair. The chair needs to be adjusted so that your knees are at a comfortable right angle and your feet are conveniently flat on the floor.
* Wrists and forearms should be held straight and parallel to the floor.
* Elbows need to be bent while working.
* The screen of your computer should be approximately 2 ft. from you and just below your line of vision.
* Obtain a chair with armrests and rest the elbows, this will help to reduce the flexion of the wrists.
* A "wrist rest" pad in front of the keyboard will alleviate compression on the carpal tunnel area.
* Stretching exercises before beginning your daily tasks will warm up the muscles and improve the blood circulation.
* Strengthening exercise can be accomplished by placing a flexible band around the fingers and then open and close the fingers. The resistance will strengthen the muscles in the area of the hand and wrist.
* Avoid sodium-loaded foods that promote retention of fluids, which worsen CTS.
* Weight in excess; will bring about more pressure on the carpal tunnel. Try to maintain an ideal weight for your personal body makeup.
* Try to alternate jobs rather than performing repetitive tasks with hands and wrists, for long periods. "

Farewell Francis M.

Thanks youtube and lyricsmode for above credits.

Kaleidoscope World by the late Francis M., who passed away 12:00 noon of March 06, 2009, has been part of my college years. I recall how it made me memorize formula, trigo identities, as well as notes for my minor subjects with it as my background. Those days when I was reviewing for exams, preparing for quizzes, were accompanied by that song. The rhythm and lyrics speak alot.

Btw,I should have been embedding here the real music video of the song, however, for some reasons, embedding was disabled by request. Anyways, it's the song and the artist behind it that matter!

May you rest in peace, master rapper!
