Attack of Katams

I admit, I wasn't really as busy as before. The last 2 weeks of this month seemed too light for me. I knew I have a lot of things to do but then I was attacked by some forces that kept me sitting still. I feel like my world was and is invaded by katams-short for katamaran, meaning laziness. Haha

Below are the activities that I supposedly worked on during that 2 weeks of being a couch potato:

1. Check the details and get more info on the on-going construction of our miniature house. I didn't pay a visit in more than a month now.

2. Write here an entry about my views on the tragedy of Ted Failon's family. The case is quite fine now and I guess there's no point of posting my opinion. But of course, I was on his side. Write more entries and get them posted. I have a lot of drafts that are not posted until today.

3.Compiling transport requests and archival logs are not-so-tedious-tasks-to-do. But then, I never really finished that job. Bad!

4. Check prices of a computer (system and/or a monitor), which will be used by my siblings. *sigh* Until now, I'm not done on that one yet.

5. To apply for a missing Health card (HMI) of my Tatay will just cost me half a minute and half buck but then I always forget to get a new one.

6. Check on the web available SAP trainings that focus on an SQL Database. Tinamad pa rin!

7. Ang walang humpay na kapapangako sa sarili to start what? driving, gym-ing, bowling and diet-ing? I always end up sleeping, eating, and dilly-dally-ing! hahaha! Ang Katam!

8. Upload photos: Cathy's Graduation (April 1), Batangas Outing of ICTD (April 17-18), May dela Cruz's Despedida (April 23).

9. Change request of the laptop. Another round of shoe clean-up. Review location of lost money. Claim chovron payment.

10. To even realize the answers to my questions:
  • "Tao pa ba ako?"
  • "May plano ba ako sa buhay?"
  • "Do I still have a life?"
  • "Do I love myself?"
Hahaha! I can never be proud of myself! Never! =(

I'm Yours

by Jason Mraz

Well, you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you're so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks, now I'm tryin' to get back
before the cool done run out I'll be giving it my best test
and nothin's gonna stop me but Divine Intervention
I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some

But I won't hesitate no more,
No more, it cannot wait
I'm yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
open up your plans and damn you're free
look into your heart and you'll find love love love love
listen to the music at the moment people dance and sing with me
Were just 1 big family
And it's our godforsaken right to be loved loved loved loved loved

So, i won't hesitate no more,
no more, it cannot wait i'm sure
there's no need to complicate our time is short
this is our fate
I'm yours

Scooch on over closer, dear
And I will nibble your ear

I've been spendin' way too long checkin' my tongue in the mirror
and bendin' over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
and so I drew a new face and I laughed
I guess what I'd be sayin' is there ain't no better reason
to rid yourself of vanities and just go with the seasons
it's what we aim to do
our name is our virtue

But I won't hesitate no more,
no more it cannot wait
I'm yours

well open up your mind and see like me
open up your plans and damn you're free
look into your heart and you'll find love love love love
listen to the music of the moment come and dance with me
ah, la one big family
it's your god forsaken right to be loved, loved, loved, loved

open up your mind and see like me
open up your plans and damn you're free
look into your heart and you'll find love love love love
listen to the music of the moment come and dance with me
ah, la happy family
it's our god forsaken right to be loved loved loved loved

it's our god forsaken right to be loved loved loved loved
listen to the music of the moment come and dance with me
ah, la peaceful melodies
it's you god forsaken right to be loved loved loved loved

Four

Number four has brought a lot of remarkable events and luck to my simple world. Just like the month of April, as we all know, the fourth month of every year.

  • »I'm the fourth in the brood of seven. The middle child in our sibling order. I can either be an elder or a younger. Lucky number isn't it?

  • »Since grade school days, I was always fourth-to-be-called whenever my teachers, by surname and gender, check our attendance. I was next to Aldana, Apolonio, and Aviles (from Grades 2-6). I was next to Acam, Barrozo and Bautista in grade 1.

  • »High school days were the same as that of grade school's. I followed Agullana, Ando and Barde. Sure I was fourth in the class record list of my mentors until fourth year.

  • »Fourth --- this rank is the sure thing I avoided to attain. When I was in first year high, I garnered most medals being the the class first honor. Next, i settled second on second year. Then, third on junior years. I thought the pattern will go worse as I add years in my Alma Mater, so I told myself to not to finish secondary level being fourth and must regain what I rightfully own---being the class top student.

  • »I have an entry about my DOST fate. And it was on the fourth of February and the announcement was on the fourth month of 2001.

  • »Four-eyes, as some of my college friends used to tease me. But until today, I haven't separated myself yet from these eyeglasses even there existed breakthroughs on contact lenses. I was once called "Boy Labo" too.

  • »In college, I was part of a group called G4, composed of Melchor, Lalaine, Norbie, and moi. I sure miss them, especially now that Lala left (again) for Germany.

  • »I like playing cards, four suits involved in the game: Diamond, Club, Heart, and Spade.
  • »I love nature. Four elements of nature are: earth, air, water and fire.

  • »Diamond, D, Delta and April. They all stand for the number 4.

  • »So on and so fourth, este forth.

Earth hour 2009

I was part of it.I started last 2008 and I joined again this year! And 2 days after committed for an hour of darkness, I was able to make this entry available:

My wallpaper:

Here's the video and lyrics of the Earth Hour anthem and I'd thought, it is worth sharing:

I'm waiting on the end of a fishing line
But there ain't no fish in the sea
I'm wishing this was a shady shoreline
But the water's higher this week
It's a struggle to feed my family
Impossible to keep my home
When people living in tall bright cities
Keep their lights on

It's alright
To turn out the light
We can make it show that we care
There's a big wide world out there
It's a beautiful night - saving energy
To turn out the light - we can be pollution-free
And go green like this world has never seen

People passing by on the city subway
Mostly they they don't notice me
Their eyes on the prize, they're so civilised
With somewhere warm and dry to sleep
SUV's and swimming pools
The air-conditioned second homes
And everything is always on standby
In case they want to switch it on

It's alright
To turn out the light
We can make it show that we care
There's a big wide world out there
It's a beautiful night - saving energy
To turn out the light - we can be pollution-free
And go green like this world has never seen

Walang Pahinga...Walang Pagpapanggap

I used a Tagalog title for this entry because I want to make emphasis in sharing my "what-happened-on-the-days-of-the-third-and fourth-week-of-March."

March 16-The countdown for the SAP Data archival project has started, making me feel the pressure, even if it was just a countdown. lol. Nope, it was countdown because anytime soon, our in-house consultant revealed his plan of flying to China.

March 17- It is my mom's birthday. It was sad to realize that now when we are able to buy good presents for her, she is no longer with us. Sure, I miss her.

March 18- Off to the bowling lanes we went when the clock read 12:00 noon. Donald, Amy, Vivian, Zeny, Frankie, JP and me were joined by the National team member of the training pool named Julius, the newcomer to ICTD.

March 19- I went to Annapolis to finalize my sign-off loan documents. I was able to do it because for this month, my duty falls on Thursdays. The sign-off went well, now I'm afraid to start thinking of the upcoming deductions to my pay slips.

March 20- The night of this day was dedicated to the man who did not only lead his people in laying pipes and providing quality water and excellent customer service in the entire East of Metro Manila, but also in improving the lives of people. The Despedida Party entitled "The ATA We Will Always Remember" started as early as 6pm. It was initiated by all departments under FRM Group. Below is a remembrance. March 21- Upon waking up early in morning, I grabbed my 2 pairs of sneakers and get 'em soaked in a basin with water and powder mixture. A special treat to them for being with me.

March 22 - A day I can call my own. Spent the day at home with SAP monitoring, neopetting, TV-ing, sleeping, and as usual EATING. The sneakers got dry only today, and in the evening, i took pictures of them, which i'm planning to post as an entry.

March 23- Back to the dungeon
, I mean back to office again. Worried I was because of the SAP Data Archival pressure again (as expected during Mondays!) This day is also the Wedding Anniversary of my parents. And again, I can't help but be sad about it.

March 24- The archival process of the restored database in a slower server has started. The official day of SAP Data Archival. *sigh*

March 25- I'm glad i'm back to posting entries again after losing my access to this blog. I lost my password and I have regained it just now. Anyways, we are supposedly at the Big dome tonight to witness the clash between GinKings and the Beermen. The nonavailability of complimentary tickets is the main point of failure. Fortunately, the Beermen bagged their 6th win and maintain unbeaten while the GinKings slumped at the bottom with 1-5 win-loss card.

That would be all for now. Happy reading!

CTS: to Care not To Scare

Like many other IT professionals who worry much about health, to know what is carpal tunnel syndrome is a must.

The image appearing at the right is courtesy of MPS Site. It shows the carpal tunnel/median nerve.

What is CTS?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition affecting the wrist, hands and fingers. It occurs when a nerve inside the wrist is compressed during an activity, such as typing on a computer. Repeating the offending activity can lead to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Symptoms

Symptoms can be moderate such as, slight lack of feeling, and minor prickling of the skin, to intense pain with a debilitating deterioration of the thumb. The most usual symptom is burning, tingling and numbness in the first three fingers. You will not be aware of any affect in the little finger. The nerve stimulus for the little finger is derived from another origin rather than the carpal tunnel. The initial onset of CTS will bring about recurrent symptoms. You may feel as if your thumb has "fallen asleep" with tingling feelings as if it is beginning to "wake up." The thumb will progressively become more physically weak and will eventually be more painful as the condition deteriorates. Manifestations of CTS are noticed more at night. This may bring about a transfer of the pain to the arms and at times into the shoulders.

How to lessen the possibility of CTS
* While at work, grasp an object with entire hand and fingers for balanced support.
* Rest your arms and hands at least every one or two hours.
* Stimulate your hands by simple exercises several times each day.
* Use tools as much as possible rather than over extending your wrist.
* Set up straight in your chair. The chair needs to be adjusted so that your knees are at a comfortable right angle and your feet are conveniently flat on the floor.
* Wrists and forearms should be held straight and parallel to the floor.
* Elbows need to be bent while working.
* The screen of your computer should be approximately 2 ft. from you and just below your line of vision.
* Obtain a chair with armrests and rest the elbows, this will help to reduce the flexion of the wrists.
* A "wrist rest" pad in front of the keyboard will alleviate compression on the carpal tunnel area.
* Stretching exercises before beginning your daily tasks will warm up the muscles and improve the blood circulation.
* Strengthening exercise can be accomplished by placing a flexible band around the fingers and then open and close the fingers. The resistance will strengthen the muscles in the area of the hand and wrist.
* Avoid sodium-loaded foods that promote retention of fluids, which worsen CTS.
* Weight in excess; will bring about more pressure on the carpal tunnel. Try to maintain an ideal weight for your personal body makeup.
* Try to alternate jobs rather than performing repetitive tasks with hands and wrists, for long periods. "

Farewell Francis M.

Thanks youtube and lyricsmode for above credits.

Kaleidoscope World by the late Francis M., who passed away 12:00 noon of March 06, 2009, has been part of my college years. I recall how it made me memorize formula, trigo identities, as well as notes for my minor subjects with it as my background. Those days when I was reviewing for exams, preparing for quizzes, were accompanied by that song. The rhythm and lyrics speak alot.

Btw,I should have been embedding here the real music video of the song, however, for some reasons, embedding was disabled by request. Anyways, it's the song and the artist behind it that matter!

May you rest in peace, master rapper!

ICTD in Baguio City

Above photos were not just taken for the purpose of this blog entry, hehehe. They were, of course, taken to prove that there exist a harmonious togetherness among ICTD* members. Featured dog in the first image is Douglas Jr., a St. Bernard. May Bukas Pa caption on the second one was an unpaid publicity for Kapamilya's new teleserye. hehehe. Note: you can click the images for bigger/clearer view.

Oh,well! Despite of the fact that I was sick, I still have what it takes to face the camera!

Bits-Bits-Bits

I am going to start posting bits-bits-bits as what I did in my old blogs. Bits-bits-bits are things/events/comments/opinions/etc. written in 2-5 sentences, usually in a news or feature lead format. First edition of Bits-bits-bits this time are the following:

BIRTHDAY
My youngest sister,Catherine, just turned 16 last February 6. She is currently a senior in my Alma Mater. When I was able to talk to her before her birthday, she mentioned her plan to rent a dress for her much-awaited prom night come Feb. 19. (mukhang sagot ni Kuya ang renta!)

EARLYWATCH
On Feb. 13, another EarlyWatch Session is set by me and the Singaporean/Malaysian SAP personnel to perform maintenance and system health check. Preparations like data collection have been started and hopefully be success.

DILEMMA
Because of being still sick and the temperature in Baguio City is cold, I am thinking of not to attend our department's outing scheduled on Feb.13-15. We will again reside for at most 3days and 2 nights at the Ayala Cottage. If I fail to convince my body to cooperate, I might miss the fun (and the expenses). The dilemma of health vs. outing. *sigh*

2 YEARS
Two years after we lost our mother last Feb. 11, 2007, the unity we have as siblings keeps stronger. We help each other amidst personal desires. I, as my sister reminded me, offered mass for the soul of our mom last Feb. 8.

UPGRADE
And soon after the rigid tests and sleepless homogeneous system copies, SAP upgrade and GO LIVE commences on Feb. 20. This 4-day-activity (or 5days) requires: alertness and presence of mind, proper documentation, and I guess, minimum sleep! Something to watch out for is who will emerge working and who will just dilly-dally.

WINNER
New WASSSLAI Board of Trustees members were selected on an election conducted last Feb. 04. The five candidates out of nine hopefuls who achieved most favors were:Tim Correa, Joey Cadorna, Don de Ausen, Jeric Sevilla and Esteban.

TROPHY
This month, I gained a bronze trophy for the game Imperial Exam in Neopets.com. Along with it is my goal to turn gold next time.

VALENTINE
I have no reason to not ce-love-rate it. If I will go to Baguio, it is a blue valentine. But if I wont make it with my officemates, it will be a grey one.

Opportunity 8 Years Ago

02-04-2001- this date brought breakthrough to me as a dreamer.

Rewind 8 years back: 10AM, I was watching TV (black and white), unprepared and have not fix myself yet, when my classmates, composed of all girls, passed by the house to inform me that they are heading to the exam venue.

"Halika na Rod, sabay-sabay na tayo." said Jenny when she was trying to convince me to go with them that early. "E, ang aga pa, ano'ng gagawin ko 'dun? 'Di pa ako kumain. Una na lang kayo, nanonood pa 'ko ng LG quiz e." That time was Picture Puzzle portion already and I was giving an answer while trying to shoo them away.

After the one-hour show, the lunch was ready and as I was trying to do my preparations, Nanay asked, "Akin, man-examine ka o andi? Linma la ra may kaklasim."I answered her nicely and prepared, and headed to Pangasinan National HS.

DOST Scholarship exam started 1PM and with relaxed mind, I took each questions seriously. As I carefully follow instructions, I whispered to myself, "This is it! This is my opportunity." All items in the test were all items I enjoyed solving. From memory test to escape-from-a-volcano test (where you need to follow instructions); from mathematical and algebraic tests to sequence/patterns analogy; from verbal relationship, reading comprehension up to linguistics (my favorite part which I enjoyed the most!). I admit how I just got bored in the Personality test part, where questions relative to time management, skills enhancement, and prioritization were asked.

"How do you celebrate a simple personal success?" was one of the questions. My answer: Treat myself for a scope of ice cream. (which I stand to until now)

I slept early that night considering the new week that was about to start. I still have to prepare myself to battle against my ego. I haven't stopped with my mission to regain what I rightfully own---being the top senior. That night was a relief with hope and prayers.

That opportunity, I knew was God's way to bless me and my family that on 04-02-2001 (look at the date), the result was out in the broadsheets. Fortunately, out of 10 hopefuls from our school, I emerged as the sole passer---and was under BS category(4-5 year course)! With that, alot of things have changed. From a simple-teaching-course-dream in a state university to a techie-computer-course in the Region top IT school located in Dagupan City.

Next things that happened was when my parents received the telegram informing them that I did it! Mellow-dramatic that was but need I say more? Then, the signing of contract in DOST office when Tatay and I walked the whole Maramba Blvd(?). And then the most anticipated Summer Orientation and Enrichment Program (SOEP) in La Union, a month-long college-preparedness program by the DOST Region I.

There were some detractors who challenged my family to support my entry for Computronix College to try to maintain the scholarship but of course, 'di kami nagpa-apekto. And so, one great college life started. Nakapag-aral na ako, may pera pa ako. Salamat sa Diyos at sa DOST.

Masaklap Ang Mga Naganap

Haaay, I said, blame it to the coach. haha.

Nagdedeliryo Na

Right now, I am at my lowest strength. I don't want to feel this way. I am fighting against these complications.
  • Sick. After a bed-resting-3-day-leave, I haven't fully recovered yet. Even more sick because of stress and what not. Also been drowsed in a lot of dilemmas lately.
  • Cough. I guess, I got a new job! Huzzah! Similar to a dog, i can make sounds when I am barking. I am promoted from being a Systems Administrator (SAP Basis) to tada! being a BARK-er.
  • Work. My environment is compared to a city that never cared for the Mother Earth. It makes me sceam, "ayoko naaaaa!". Irritated, maybe because of being ill, but hey, the quarterback yesterday made me say to myself, "sumusobra na naman na!" Makes me feel not to attend any meetings again. Buti na lang, Mickey and Rodette emceed the "Viva!"
  • Rating. The Performance Evaluation sheets and their contents were not discussed this time. Hmm.. makes me wonder how it was related to the sound I heard during the meeting. *sigh* I'll just wait what will happen next.
  • Look and feel. This activity today is part of my on-going project, SAP Technical Upgrade. This is a predecessor of more activities lined up next week and hopefully be finished next month. The said event provides me more problems. Stressing din pala 'to. Ayoko na talaga!!!
  • BCD. Life they say is from B to D. Between them is definitely C. But if B stands for Birth and D for Death, will it be as definite as it may seem if C=Choice?
Nagdedeliryo na nga yata talaga ako. I'm very down, physically, emotionally, morally. Kaya ko pa kaya? Saklolo!

Bad Influenza : Total Disaster

Undeniably, my illness has been making me worry. The influenza I have for 6days now is truly an obstacle. It's hard to have fever + colds + coughing + tonsillitis + headache + nosebleed = physical disaster. Even difficult to undergo treatments because I'm taking 4 medicines after meals + a capsule-like tablet as my vitamins once-a-day. It is really a challenge to get sick.

According to my doctor, the following are the sources of my problem:
  1. The Weather- it is not cooperative, not only for me but for everyone else. Its pattern has changed inevitably. Rains have been observed.
  2. Excessive cold - controlling the temperature in my workplace is prohibited because of the machines/servers that require the standard temperature. That temperature is not bearable during these wintry months.
  3. Stress - this major cause of any illness is known to all. If you need to rest for awhile, tell your boss right away.
  4. Lack of Self-discipline - if you need to wear 2 jackets in your office, don't hesitate to do so. If you have already seen symptoms that you are in need of a consultation from a doctor, why not do it?
Doctor advised the following: (my comments in parentheses)
  1. Take this-and-that medicines as prescribed. (okay po! taga-mercury yata ang ate ko.)
  2. Drink more liquids - water and juice. (pwede po ba ung chilled and cold? mas masarap yun e.)
  3. Eat plenty of fruits.
  4. Refrain eating spicy, salty, and sweet foods. (sabi ko na nga ba e. . . pagbabawalan na naman ako.)
  5. Take a day leave to get rest. (di ko po kayo sinunod, naka-3day-leave nga ako e.)
Here is a discussion with the doctor that I was able to store in my memory:

Me: Alin po dito 'yung para sa sakit ng ulo.
Doc: Ah, teka. Wala akong na-prescribe. (then, may inihabol siyang isinulat sa reseta) Talagang magkakasama 'yang lagnat, ubo at sakit ng ulo.
Me: Aah.
M: Last Christmas po.
D: Bagay sa'yo.
. . .

I'm still in recovery stage, sana tuloy-tuloy na ito. Thanks to my sister who provides me medicines (for free). ;)

Below is my collection of Kadoaties in Neopets. This album was able to award me a spiffy avatar that appears at the bottom!
